Between 1963 and 1905 Jules Verne published an astonishing list of novels and short stories centered around the scientific discoveries of his time. A great deal of these are collected as his Voyages extraordinaires or Extraordinary Voyages.
Verne’s meticulous attention to detail and scientific trivia, coupled with his sense of wonder and exploration, form the backbone of the Voyages. Part of the reason for the broad appeal of his work was the sense that the reader could gain real knowledge of geology, biology, astronomy, paleontology, oceanography, history and the exotic locations and cultures of the world through the adventures of Verne’s protagonists.
Verne is one of the most translated and republished authors to date but, as this is our specialty, Winthorpe & Valentine is joining this tradition and will re-publish the entire Voyages extraordinaires series in English and, hopefully, Dutch.
